My Cameras

2003 - mid 2005: Sony Digital Compact

Up until mid 2005 I used a 4 megapixel Sony DSC-P9 Digital Camera which was housed in a MPK-P9 Housing.

I bought this camera in the summer of 2003, since then it has been superceeded by the ever increasing number of Sony digital compact cameras.

From 2005 - mid 2005 I used a nummber of Sea and Sea accessories to enhance the quality of pictures, and type of pictures that I could take with this set up. This included

  • a single Sea and Sea YS25-DX Auto strobe
  • a Sea and Sea 16mm wide angle lens
  • a Sea and Sea 1:2 macro lens

together with the necessary arm, tray, fibre optic cable, and lens adaptor to hold the external Sea and Sea lenses onto the camera housing.

If there's one (well actually 2) pieces of kit I recommend you should get - it's the 16mm wide angle lens, and adapter for your camera housing. It lets you get in very close to your subject - cutting the water column between lens and subject dramatically - which really helps to get rid of any backscatter, and you can still use the zoom on the digital camera with out any weird distortion effects going on. Well worth it in my opinion.

Mid 2005 onwards: Nikon D70 SLR

Since mid-2005 I have used a Nikon D70 digital SLR in an Ikelite housing. The first set of photos taken with this are the ones in the Isle of Man (June 2005), these were taken with the standard 18-70mm kit lens. In some of the later galleries there are some macro photos taken with a 60mm macro lens. I am hoping to aquire more Nikon lenses as I go on and funds allow!
